UN Global Compact CEO encourages sustainability in Belt and Road Initiative
|
UN Global Compact CEO and Executive Director Sanda Ojiambo visited China to promote the sustainability role of the private sector in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and lay the foundations for a Global Africa Business Initiative–China CEO network to be launched next year. In Beijing, the Global Compact unveiled guidance and tools for companies working on the BRI to innovate and harness resources to ensure infrastructure projects reflect sustainable development.

Governments asked to ramp up crucial fight against corruption
|
The UN Global Compact kicked off a Call-to-Action from the private sector urging Governments to intensify efforts to tackle corruption affecting business around the world. The Call-to-Action asks Governments to highlight anti-corruption and good governance as fundamental pillars of sustainability by strengthening policies, legal frameworks and mechanisms to incentivize business integrity, strive for greater transparency, boost accountability and promote ethical leadership.

Industry leaders launch action programmes for water-stressed communities in India
|
Gap Inc., Cargill and GSK joined with the Water Resilience Coalition and WaterAid to launch the Women + Water Collaborative, a collective action programme to improve access to clean water and sanitation in India. The effort by the apparel, agriculture and biopharma companies will begin with the Krishna and Godavari basins. The WRC is an initiative of the CEO Water Mandate, a partnership between the Global Compact and the Pacific Institute.

Global Compact Network Singapore summit to promote sustainability ambition
|
On 2 November, Global Compact Network Singapore will host a summit titled “The Decade to Deliver: Raising the Bar on Sustainability Ambition”, with Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies, Mr. Heng Swee Keat as guest of honour. The summit will address the regional trends, challenges and opportunities around decarbonisation, net-zero ambition, empowering small and medium-sized businesses and the potential uses of AI for environmental sustainability solutions.

Latin America & Caribbean Local Networks host dialogue on human rights
|
The "Second Regional Business Dialogue on Human Rights” convened recently in Santiago, Chile, with representatives from leading Latin American companies, delegates from Global Compact Local Networks and the Latin America & Caribbean regional office of the Global Compact. Part of a forum established by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the event was an opportunity to share experiences and insights and address shared human rights challenges.
